Day 5
Today's started off hectic as I accidentally slept in through my alarm, inwhich i had to have the quickest shower ever, but I made good time on the road as there wasnt as much traffic as usual.
So I arrive in the morning on time to have a quick coffee, everyone in the office seems super relaxed as many people are away, so we got a few quick games of street fighter in.
After our coffee I had to make some small changes to the Buck flier for john and get it exported and sent to his computer, after that I had to do help john with an office run where we go to office works to buy supplies. It was good to mix it up and help out instead of being eye locked on the computer.
On the way back we stopped off to have some lunch before we returned to the office, we dropped into subway and got some fresh sandwiches, foot long chicken fillet here I come.
After lunch I didnt do anymore design work really just helped out with different office duties, like filing, sending off posters again down to the post office, helping pack showbags (they do a show bag called this is killer for promotional purposes)and helping pack orders for the online store site called killyourstereo.com feel free to check it out they have some alright stuff www.killyourstereo.com
As my work placement comes to end I must say I am happy with how it all went and what contribution I made, John said that if I finish coding some of the myspaces for him, he might be able to get me some paided work, doing myspace layouts for companies, which is super exciting.

New Ideas!!
As I have been making my monster in stuarts class I have came up with a concept of drawing lots and lots of different monsters, tho I have only drawn a few in my journal i am super pumped as about the prospect of being a monster creater. I just got a call from my dad saying he needed a cv for me for a job, which is funny cause we have a hand in our cv for wednesday's class so wish me luck on getting a job doing web design, although I am not extremely confident but you cant help but try.
We also finished up the invitation & catalogue this week as much trouble as it was im glad i did it.
On wednesday my phone rang while I was driving and it was megan so I thought I should anwser as I was in a residential area which I thought to my self what are the chances of a police car being in the area and bob's your uncle as I was trying to park I see the Po Po, terrified as the notion of getting a fine ( i live out of house money is tight) I quickly got out of the car and getting the police in which all they said was is 'its a bit hard trying to park while on the phone dont you think' in which i replied with 'yes' and then they drove off, whooooo hooo for me I defently dodged a bullet.
I just thought I would share with you all my triumph.

Work Placement
Day 4
Fun Stuff!
So today started different as I had to drive into work with my mac, to work on designs for the staple group. The trip proved to be quick and I found relatively good parking, arrive at 10 I was given a new space with an empty desk, in which I hooked up my mac to the power, internet and printer outlets.
In the morning I was asked to create a quick flier for an upcoming charity show at the Arthouse, tho the flier was not a big show I was still happy to do it, I worked on the concept through till lunch.
For lunch I got to play against some of the employees who were Ben , Jarod and John in street fighter ( they have a street fighter arcade in the office). Ben is a master at that game and I was ashamed at the whooping I received.
Back to work in the afternoon and I continued on my flier for the show, tho it took me ages to complete I feel happy with the design concept I came up with. Here are a few flicks of the concept procedure. I mostly used Photoshop with a little help from illustrator and the good old paper and pen to draw out the concept. The show is featuring Deez Nuts and House vs Hurricane and the show is titled Bucks.
It was a super fun day for me as I really enjoy working on projects such as fliers and was good to get a break from html myspace editing.

Work Placement
Day 3
Help Out with Boring Everyday Stuff :(
As last week was quite a productive week for being in work placement, yesterday wasn't so much design wise, as I had to help out staple with all little bits and pieces in side the company.
One of which was helping add friends to artist' myspace pages for half of the morning and the second was re-typing up a schedules for bands upcoming tours, although it was not design/art related I did find it somewhat interesting the workings of a medium sized marketing business.
For lunch John took me to a place he is super fond of which was this super yum indian place that did an off the chain butter chicken and chicken korma, we also purchased some super sweet samosa'.
Back to work.
In the afternoon I was able to start working on projects more design related as staple needed some advanced examples of the myspace profiles I can do, so I started working on making a somewhat complicated myspace layout for a clothing label. This is for staple to show clients what I can do, and what they can offer as a service.
I started with ideas using photoshop as my program of choice instead of having to write out the whole layout on myspace, this helps with being efficient and getting concepts done as quickly as possible, once the version is approved then we start with the fiddly stuff.

New Character!!
So for stuarts class my attempt at the new orleans hornets logo was far from impressing , so i thought by switching my idea to re creating a character I drew would help my motivation and it did i drew this little guy in my journal, tho I have been bundled with invitation, catalogue work I have been able to do this much to the little guy, I have not made a name for him yet but I will think of one. This image below is the result of 2 weeks work in stuarts class I did the basic shapes and am now starting to add the tech parts in including his arms.

Work Placement
Day 2
Work, Rest & Play
So yesterday I once again got up at the crack of dawn for me and spent my second day at the staple office doing my work placement, which proved to be a bit more challenging than the opposing day.
I first job of the day was I had to re design the staple myspace in which I had to pitch various ideas to the head boss and John Stevens and get different oppinons of go back and make changes to the proposals. In the end we both came to a conclusion on the designs direction and format of the revamp, although some of the other designs I would of preferred, I was happy to compromise.
The process took up most of the day as the staples myspace had a lot of content, but for lunch we got to have some real nice Japanese which was able to fuel my creative juices.
I use Adobe Photoshop to re duplicate what the layout may look like this involved re doing background, heading, pictures, title pictures ect ect.
As the day came to the end, I asked John how I was doing and he was pleased with my input into the company, although I feel quite exhausted I feel quite happy with my efforts.
So you guys can see what im up to here are a few pics of the different layout I came up with.

Work Placement
DAY 1
FIRST DAY IS ALWAYS THE SCARYEST.
So yesterday I started my first day at work placement which started at the crack of dawn for me (10am) as I live close to the city, it wasnt a far ride on the train to Richmond station which was good as the train we were on didnt allow alot of person space.
I arrive to staples office on time and was greeted by John Stevens, he showed me around the office, toilets, kitchen, pinball machine, street fighter machine and computer station and placed me on a computer to start my day, they said I might have to bring in my mac to work on some design work as the computers spare at the office were not as efficient as my imac(plus I everyone loves working on there own machine).
The day felt quick when doing myspace layouts as its so tedious with html coding and testing the layouts in different browsers, but my main job of the day was to do a revamp on a myspace artist called 'Oh Mercy' for there upcoming cd release, I had a listen to their music while I worked on the layout for them and I must say they are not bad, every now and then I was told to stop working on the layout and was asked to do various odd jobs like wrapping posters for upcoming tours and events and then posting them off and also doing some adding for various bands to gather public awareness through myspace.
As it quickly became 6 oclock I was shocked at how fast the day went when designing if only my safeway job felt this quick but all in all a good first day full of insight.
